THE INN:
The Inn at the Round Barn Farm  is the quintessential Vermont B&B. A clapboard building, a roaring fireplace, the smell of fresh baked cookies, wide planked pine floors and gorgeous views combine to make this charming inn as comfortable as your own home. We half expected Bing Crosby to come out singing. Built originally in 1910, the Inn was renovated in 1988 and then added new rooms in 1992 and 1999.  The concept of the “round barn” originated with the religious group, the Shakers who built their barns this way because “the devil can’t get you in the corners” In fact, the design was a very efficient one for the farmers.

Set on 245 acres, minutes from the Sugarbush and Mad River Ski slopes and 45 minutes from Stowe, the property has meticulously landscaped lawns, five ponds, lush flower gardens, an organic produce garden, meadows and woods and wonderful mountain views.  In the warmer months  breakfast or a drink on the terrace, overlooking a pond is serene and tranquil . The beauty of the surroundings has made this a very popular wedding venue.

THE ROOMS:
There are 12 rooms, each stylishly decorated in warm colors with a mix of traditional and antique furniture. My Joslin Room had a canopy bed, wide plank pine floors covered with area rugs, a gas fireplace and wonderful antique dressers. White crown molding around the ceiling and windows set off the rich mauve colored walls complimented by matching window coverings and the bed canopy. A comfortable wing chair and ottoman flanked the bed and another  club chair was in the bath suite. The bathroom had two sinks, a two person whirlpool tub and my favorite…a steam shower. Great shower with lots of power. Thoughtful touches include make-up remover, an extra light bulb, corkscrew, needle and thread.

THE RESTAURANT:
Coffee is available each morning at 7:30am and breakfast is served from 8:30-9:30am. The menu changes daily and it is wonderfully delicious. During my stay the meal started with freshly squeezed orange juice, a coffee cake with raspberry yogurt. That was followed by an apple slaw with nuts and then by banana buttermilk pancakes with local bacon and a maple, cranberry walnut syrup. Wonderful!

The Inn has a license to sell wine by the glass and bottle and there are always complimentary drinks and snacks and hors d’ouevres and tea each afternoon.

In the winter, try to plan your stay when they have a Snowshoe Dinner. It’s a hike into the woods (and I mean a hike-about 35 minutes) but you are rewarded with a charming candle lit cabin with an inside and outside fireplace and absolutely wonderful food. Not to worry, they take you back a different way that only takes 10 minutes. Great fun.

In Waitsfield, Chez Henri is a French bistro that has been around forever,  The Pitcher Inn in nearby Warren, is an outstanding fine dining experience with a gorgeous dining room and creek views and about 20 minutes away the Hen of the Wood restaurant has a Food & Wine award winning chef and exceptional food.

THE SERVICE:
For a relatively small property, there is a significant staff dedicated to maintaining the property and serving the guests. The staff is pleasant and accessible and even after hours available to the needs of the guest.

THE RATES:
From $205- $330  peak  season.

WHAT OTHERS SAY…
“My husband and I stayed here for two nights in February. The Inn was beautiful and the staff was great. The chef "wowed" me with his amazing breakfast and he accommodated my gluten allergy with no problem. The rooms are clean and cozy. We loved having the fireplace in our room.” Trip Advisor

“The Inn at Round Barn is our favorite place to stay and relax, whether it's after a day on the nearby slopes, or just a day of wandering the Mad River Valley. Convenient location, considerate staff and thoughtful amenities make this inn very memorable.” Trip Advisor

WHILE YOU ARE THERE:
On the property, there is an 60 ft indoor lap pool, a game room with a pool table, chess table and big screen TV. There are miles of marked trails on the property, ideal for hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The Inn provides complimentary snow shoes and passes to Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center.

Skiing and other winter sports and hiking, rafting, swimming, golf and other warm weather sports are available nearby at Sugarbush and Stowe.

For over 20 years, the Green Mountain Cultural Center has called the Inn home to a variety of events. Performances supported by this renowned Vermont non-profit organization have become a cornerstone of the Vermont Festival of the Arts. The goal is to marry the beauty of the valley and Vermont's Green Mountains with the unique talents of local Vermont artists, New England artists, and artists of international renown.
