Las Vegas

Hard to believe this was my first trip to Las Vegas, but it’s true. I am not a gambler and all the glitz has little appeal for me.  I was surprised, therefore, to find that I actually liked the town. It is clean and efficiently run (all the taxis look like new hybrids), it has an amazing collection of restaurants and there is plenty to do without ever stepping into a casino.

Its gold façade glistening in the desert sun,Trump sits on the edge of the Strip, close enough to walk anywhere, yet seemingly far away from the bustling crowds. If you want luxury and proximity without the hordes tramping through a casino, this is a place for you. As with all Trump hotels, the “view” is paramount and this is no exception. The towering hotel has spectacular vistas of The Strip through floor to ceiling windows in each room or suite.

Trump Las Vegas is a family friendly condo hotel. The color palette is gold and brown complemented by dark woods and contemporary artwork and rich fabrics. Amenities include a pull-out couch, huge Italian marble baths with twin sinks and soaking tubs and a European style fully equipped kitchen with appliances by Wolf, Bosch, and Sub-Zero. Luxury linens, a full complement of technology gadgets and oh those views make this a comfortable and luxurious outpost when visiting the City.

In a city where every hotel has numerous dining choices, the single restaurant at Trump, DJT, would seem to put it at a disadvantage, yet it is a well regarded respite from the crowded spots on the Strip. Zagat calls it “a “secret of the Strip”…..the $30 prix fixe dinner is an “absolute steal”, so go now “before everyone realizes what a gem” it is.”  Serving modern American food in sophisticated setting with intimate booths lining the walls, the food is well prepared and beautifully presented.

While I was disappointed in the depth and breadth of the wine list, there were still plenty of good choices at very reasonable prices.

As with all Trump hotels, service is paramount and while this one did not reach the heights of others we have visited, it was still beyond the norm. Staff was well trained, efficient and available when you needed them. They were quick to provide directions and happy to answer questions.

The hotel has a beautiful outdoor pool with private cabanas and food and drink service from its restaurant H2 (EAU). The Spa at Trump is a luxurious sanctuary with a full range of treatments as well as a health club with all the usual equipment.

Needless to say, there is gambling everywhere and our choices, based on the sheer beauty of the properties are the Bellagio and Wynn. I also found the quaint Paris Hotel very charming and had the best breakfast of my trip at their sidewalk Mon Ami Gabi bistro.

Visit Las Vegas provides a complete listing of all shows and sporting events and also listings of other activities from golf, to tours, to outdoor recreation to attractions and shopping. Did you know that just 45 minutes from The Strip you can ski and snowboard?
