Food & Drink

Breakfast

Meil’s Bridge & Main Sts. Stockton, NJ. This is a local favorite. Waiting lines on the weekends. Small, two intimate rooms, but wonderful breakfasts and homemade pastries, muffins and breads. The Eggs Benedict are served with country ham and spinach & a thick and creamy Hollandaise. The croissant French toast comes with fresh fruit or filled with almond custard and the potato pancakes are the best. All breakfast entrees are served with slivered sweet potato & white potato home fries. Grab a paper and begin the day. Another local favorite is Duck Soup, Logan Square, Rt. 202. Everything’s fresh and you’ll probably run into someone you know. For amazing croissants, brioches and other pastries, the French Bakery, C’est La
Vie at 20 Main Street, New Hope is wonderful. Open at 7:30am. Delicious coffes and teas also.

Lunch

The Landing, 22N. Main St. New Hope. This wonderful converted house is the perfect spot for lunch in any season. In winter there are cozy booths and a fireplace inside and in warmer weather a glorious outdoor patio right on the Delaware River. There is a large outdoor bar, staffed on our visits by a very friendly young woman named Michelle. They have a pretty good wine list with most under $50 and many in the $30 range. Beside the usual sandwiches and burgers, what sets the Landing apart are what else they offer. Here’s just a sampling; Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese, Roasted Turkey Breast on French Bread Havarti Dill, Green Apples, Lettuce, Ancho Mayonnaise, Pulled Pork Sandwich with Emmantaler Cheese, Red Onion, Romaine Lettuce and Barbecue Sauce. By the way, this is also a great place to while away a rainy day. The outside bar is covered and the TV’s always have some sporting event on.  Martine’s, End of Ferry on the water, New Hope Fall of 2006, Martine’s moved right down the street to renovated quarters right on the river. The new digs, in a cheery yellow building, are all about the glorious view. Spring will bring an outside deck and bar. A new chef has been hired and a new menu is in the works. But Martine is still the owner and her history will make this new venture fly. Worth going just for the view. Marcella Nord. Main and Ferry. New Hope. This successful Italian from Washington Crossing has taken over the space formally occupied by Martine’s. A cozy bar, a roaring fire in cold weather, an outside stone patio are just a few of the reasons to try this neat little spot for lunch. There’s a great table in a glassed in knook just across from the bar that overlooks the street. The restaurant is now BYOB. C’est La Vie 20 S. Main St. New Hope. Down a little alley from Main Street, this wonderful French Bakery and Café makes delicious sandwiches, quiches, savory croissants and soups. A cozy patio is open in nice weather with views of the river. Lily’s on the Canal. Canal Street, Lambertville. Big open kitchen centers the room that overlooks the Canal. Great sandwiches and salads. Wine only. Great homemade sangria.

Burger

Anton’s at the Swan. Lambertville. My local friends swear by the cheeseburger at the Swan. They think it takes the burger to another level! The great bar is the perfect setting. Havana’s Main Street, New Hope. Offers a huge, juicy burger with perfectly crisp fries. It’s a toss-up.

Cocktails

Sand Bar,  New Hope. Great martinis. Hip retro décor. Excellent tapas menu if you want an appetizer before dinner. Martine’s. end of Ferry Street, New Hope. Beautiful new bar with views of the River. Good wine list. Havana’s. Main Street, New Hope. Weather permitting (and even when it isn’t the outside bar is covered and they’ve got heaters everywhere) this is the best people watching spot in town. The Boathouse, Coryell Street Lambertville. They have an outside patio, but the inside is much more interesting. This two story establishment serves only drinks, no food, except for pretzels at the bar. Antiques, wood stove, fireplace, couches and easy chairs make this a cozy retreat anytime and even more so in Winter. Perfect place for a drink before dinner.

When the weather is nice head over to the Cuttalossa Inn at 3487 River Road in Lumberville, Pa just down the road from New Hope. Ruins of an old lumber mill have been converted into an outdoor bar with views of a quite spectacular water fall.
