Food & Drink

Breakfast

Broadway Grill, Main Street in downtown Manasquan. Delicious pancakes. Bacon’s never greasy. Great potatoes too.  John & Elaine’s, Rt. 35 Point Pleasant. The local’s favorite place. Love the cozy booths in the main room. Pancakes to die for, try the pumpkin pancakes in the Fall.  Avon Pavillion, Ocean Ave. Avon. Perfect setting overlooking the ocean in Avon. Outside deck has side laps if it rains. Inside is bright and airy. Food is delicious and service surprisingly good for a seasonal business. Open May-September. Great people run this place. Mike’s at the Inlet, Manasquan Inlet. It’s fast food, but good fast food. Fresh muffins and bagels. Excellent breakfast sandwiches. Fruit. Juices. Great view of boats heading out for the day.

Lunch

In the warmer weather the Porch at the Parker House in Sea Girt is delightful, as is the deck at the River House or the outside tables at the Sand Bar in Brielle, both with views of the river and marina. In cooler weather, head to Rod's or Harrigan's in Sea Girt or St. Stephen's in Spring Lake Heights for excellent pub food.

The Mill in Spring  Lake Heights offers a more upscale menu in an elegant surrounding overlooking a lake.

After the Beach

Parker House Back Porch 1st Avenue, Sea Girt. Mini burgers ($1.50), shrimp and clams, 1 lb lobsters ($8), lots of cold beer and reggae music make this outdoor porch behind the Parker House a favorite of the locals. Tough to get a table after 3:30pm. (Seasonal) The RiverHouse Green Avenue, Brielle. Patio bars with tables and umbrellas on the Manasquan River, overlooking the docks. Best view up the river to the Inlet and ocean. 3 bars, good bar food. Where many of the locals hang out. (Seasonal) Martell's Tiki Bar Ocean Avenue, Point Pleasant. If you are looking for something a little more wild after the beach, this is the place. Right on the ocean, tons of people, 4 bars, live music and dancing. Frozen drinks, decent appetizers, very cold beer. (Seasonal) Union Landing Green Ave, Brielle. Sit outside on two levels overlooking the Manasquan  River. Upper level with raw bar, another bar and tables under a canopy. Lower level with tables and umbrellas. Good appetizers and drinks. Cold beer. Sunday entertainment. Favorite of the locals.(Seasonal)

Pub

Rod’s Olde Irish Tavern. Washington Blvd., Sea Girt. May just be the best run saloon anywhere. Cozy booths, lots of TV’s, great food, fun bartenders, well trained wait staff. Perfect place for lunch, after the beach or Sunday brunch. Everyone feels welcome here. Make their own croutons, salad dressings, chicken fingers (the buffalo are the best), roast their own turkeys and they offer the best prime rib anywhere but usually only on Friday nights. Best place for St. Patrick’s Day or any televised sporting event. Lots of fresh daily specials including fish. Decent wine list, the “hottest” beers, very good Sunday brunch, very reasonable prices.

Steak Sandwich

Harrigan’s Pub. Rt. 71 Sea Girt. Top sirloin comes out sizzling in its own garlic butter with fries. $14.95. Also HUGE shrimp, great chili and burgers. Favorite of the locals.

Lobster

Reds Lobster Pot Channel Drive in Point Pleasant. No frills, BYOB spot on the water. All kinds of seafood, but people come for the lobster. Get there around sunset for a glorious display from Mother Nature. No reservations.

Steak

Bay Pointe Prime Rt 35, Point Pleasant/Bay Head. You don’t go here for the atmosphere, but you do go to Bay Point Prime, for the best steak at the Shore. This is the closest thing you will find to a great New York steakhouse at the Shore……..with accompanying prices. Great cuts of meat, swordfish, lobster and sides. Homemade desserts.

Pizza

Pete & Elda’s. Rt. 35, Neptune. Super thin crust pizza that locals will drive miles to get. One of those things where people say, “I’ve been dreaming of a Pete & Elda’s pizza for days” Eat an Extra Large by yourself and you get a t-shirt. DeLorenzo's. Husdon Street, Trenton. It is a 40 minute drive from the Shore, but if you are a pizza fanatic, this is like going to the Pizza Mecca. They will take a reservation, but you better be there on time. No credit cards and no bathroom. This is, however, the best pizza you will ever experience....bar none.

Cocktails

The River House outside deck mentioned above, in nice weather or these great spots; The Mill Old Mill Road, Spring Lake  Heights. Wonderful setting overlooking a tranquil lake with fountains and floating swans. Sleek, modern bar. Sun splashes across the lake at cocktail hour. Jazz trio from 6:30pm. Off-Shore Ocean Ave. Point Pleasant. Dark, warm and cozy. Beautiful mahogany bar. Fireplace in winter. Thin crust pizzas are a great appetizer. Mahogany Grill.  Main Street, Manasquan. Jimmy makes the best martini around at this stylish, hopping local’s hang-out. People come here for a drink even if they’re not having dinner here.
