Woodstock Inn, Woodstock VT

OVERVIEW of Woodstock Inn

Sometimes, when we visit a property it exceeds even our expectations and that was the case on our visit to the Woodstock Inn & Resort in Woodstock, Vermont. This is a beautiful resort in a wonderful town in one of our favorite states.

The Inn traces its heritage back to 1793 when Captain Israel Richardson built the first lodging accommodations in the new town. Today’s Inn is the result of the vision of Lawrence (philanthropist, conservationist and business leader) and his wife Mary Rockefeller. Mary grew up in Woodstock and the Rockefellers were instrumental in guiding the town’s growth and preservation of its long history.

The majestic white building with black shutters sits on the village green surrounded by immaculately sculpted lawns and lush flower gardens bursting with color. The public rooms have retained the charm of an old country inn furnished with antique reproductions, local artwork and beautiful fabrics.

THE ROOMS at Woodstock Inn

The 142 rooms encircle an interior lawn set with Adirondack chairs. There are a number of lodging options ranging from a basic room to accommodations for couples or families traveling together. All rooms have cherry wood or mahogany crafted framed beds, pillow-top mattresses, luxury linens and bathrooms adorned with Vermont marble, subway tile and wood accents. My Tavern King had a tranquil sitting area, built-in book shelves and writing desk and windows with custom interior shutters overlooking the interior square. It was one of the most comfortable rooms I have ever experienced.

DINING at Woodstock Inn

The Red Rooster is the Inn’s signature AAA Four Diamond award winning restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. A skylight splashes light on a wonderful display of white birches in the center of the room and lamp posts are made of tree bark. Cozy booths and banquettes create a wonderfully intimate setting. Food is locally sourced including from  the Inn’s own gardens.

Richardson Tavern features a more casual menu with a terrific drink selection (try the fresh blueberry margarita) and a good selection of wines. The Pork Schnitzel sandwich with a lemon herb aioli, mustard green slaw on a brioche grinder was amazing.

THE SERVICE at Woodstock Inn

Service and customer care are exceptional, they seem to have thought of everything. I got upgraded when I checked in, coffee is set in the Conservatory before 6:30am. Newspapers were available early (including my NY Post!). WIFI was a simple sign-in. The fireplace had no flue to worry about.
