The Gardens Hotel

OVERVIEW of the Gardens Hotel

Once the largest private estate on the island, the Gardens Hotel has been transformed into an exotic oasis just blocks from the action on Duval. The Main Building, which houses Reception,

has a delightful living room with reading material, videos and information on what to do in Key West; the Breakfast Room, which spills onto an intimate patio; and an atrium with a white baby grand piano.

The grounds, framed by a 10 foot wall, are meticulously landscaped with brick patios winding through lush tropical foliage, with beautiful orchids and secluded little alcoves. On a short stroll around the grounds you’ll encounter an aviary, bubbling fountains and tranquil ponds. Duval seems miles away. There is a heated free form pool, a private hot tub and a wonderful little pool bar.

Kate Miano, who cut her teeth in the Inn business at the Ambrosia House in Key West, realized a long time dream in 2004 by purchasing The Gardens Hotel. She is a delightful woman who clearly cares about her guests and goes out of her way to make you comfortable. Her staff adores her and is equally adept at attending to your needs. I have seldom encountered such a nice group of people who sincerely care about your comfort.

THE ROOMS at the Gardens Hotel

Three buildings house 17 luxuriously decorated rooms with tropical themes, designer linens, mahogany furniture, oak floors and marble baths with jacuzzi tubs. Rooms are air-conditioned with ceiling fans, a refrigerator, flat screen TV, robes, Aveda toiletries, and a coffeemaker. All the rooms face the gardens and many have wonderful verandas with comfortable porch furniture, ideal for curling up with a book. I have stayed in both a Historic room and a Courtyard room and loved them both, but the Courtyard room is more spacious and has a veranda.

DINING at the Gardens Hotel

A delicious breakfast is included in the room rate and there is a pool bar for your favorite cocktails. There is a very cool interactive wine gallery, D’Vine, where you can taste 36 great wines from around the world,  by the glass.

WHAT OTHERS SAY About the Gardens Hotel

“Charming rooms decorated with care in a chic Key West plantation style are the standout feature of this slice of heaven, a former private estate built in the 1800s and now on the National Register of Historic Places; as the name suggests, there are lush botanical gardens and ponds, plus a friendly staff, but there’s no on-site restaurant (just the nice continental breakfast); luckily it’s only a block from Duval Street.”  ZAGAT
