OVERVIEW of The Mayflower Inn

Located just two hours from Manhattan in the hills of Connecticut,  the 30 room luxury inn sits on 58 gorgeous acres of gardens and woodlands and is surrounded by a 3,000 acre nature preserve.

The majestic Mayflower House is home to reception, The Tap Room lounge, the Mayflower Dining Room and some wonderful parlors, each with a blazing fireplace during our visit. My favorite was the cozy and intimate library which also had a fireplace and some super comfortable leather reading chairs. It was the perfect place in the morning for coffee and a newspaper.

Accommodations are spread over 4 buildings and each is individually styled. All have feather topped mattresses, antique oriental rugs, oversized marble baths with brass and Limoges fittings, gas fireplaces, a well-stocked in-room bar, thick luxurious duvets, plump oversized pillows, linens by Frette and antique four-poster beds.

DINING at The Mayflower Inn

Guests can dine in the casual Tap Room which has a fireplace and a piano for Saturday night entertainment or the Mayflower Dining Room, a more formal setting with a soft gray palette, accented colorful artwork and fresh flowers. The restaurant has fantastic views over the lawn to the Shakespearean garden maze and in warmer weather guests can dine al fresco on the terrace.

The Tap Room offers small bites, oysters, salads, sandwiches, lobster rolls, burgers, pizza, steaks and more.The Dining Room menu has an Italian bent with items like Burrata Salad with
Garlic Croutons, Onion, Honeydew, Cavatelli Bolognese, Beef Ragu, Aged Parmesan, Garden Herbs, 90 Day Dry Aged Grilled Ribeye, Forrest Mushrooms, Pomme Puree, Herb Butter. For dessert try the Lemon Tart with Port Wine Reduction and Lavender Ice Cream.

THE SERVICE at The Mayflower Inn

Service is what we have come to expect at Relais properties. Our car was met at the front door, we were offered a glass of champagne or bottled water and a hot towel with a eucalyptus fragrance. Check-in was swift and we were escorted to our room, a short drive away. Our room had a choice of pillow types and an aromatherapy device that released a choice of fragrances into the room. Downstairs in our building there were rain slickers and umbrellas for those wet days.
