OVERVIEW of the La Mer/Dewey House

Staying here is getting the best of all worlds. La Mer and Dewey House are delightful, private and intimate oceanfront B&B’s, but are part of the adjacent Southernmost Hotel which has three pools, two outside bars and a fishing pier.  Also part of the complex is the Southernmost Beach Cafe an open air restaurant and bar, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner and even cocktails from early morning.

THE ROOMS at the La Mer/Dewey House

These wonderful adjoining properties literally sit on the beach at the end of Duval and have beautifully decorated rooms, many with porches overlooking the ocean. Decorated in soothing beach colors with ceiling fans and luxurious marble bathrooms, many with Jacuzzi tubs. There’s complimentary bottled water, plush robes, designer linens, a self serve bar and a newspaper delivered to your door every morning.

Start the day with a delicious continental breakfast served on the patio around the wading pool overlooking the ocean. You can spend the day around any of the pools but most opt for the white sandy beach with comfortable lounge chairs ($5) and drink service. Lunch is only a few steps away at the beachfront café and at the end of the day you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea in a beautiful oceanfront setting.

Our last room, 403, had 10 ft. ceilings, crown molding, beige walls dressed with local art and dark hardwood floors. An armoire housed a TV and DVD player, safe and refrigerator. The bathroom was tiled with white bricks and featured Vykasa Tea Tree toiletries. French doors opened onto our private wrap-around porch with lounge chairs. the  beach, steps down from our veranda. Other room recommendations are 404 in La Mer, and 418, 419 and 420 on the second floor of the Dewey House. Room 420 also has a little kitchenette.

There no better way to start the day than sitting on a patio with a cup of coffee and watching the sun rise over the ocean. This is the only B&B in Key West in which you can do that.
