Estancia La Jolla, La Jolla CA

OVERVIEW of Estancia La Jolla

Just north of San Diego lies the upscale enclave of La Jolla (pronounced hoy-a), and within it, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, a peaceful refuge from the bustle of the city. The impeccably manicured grounds are designed in Spanish hacienda style and bloom with vines, flowers, trees and plants that infuse colors and exquisite scents into every nook of the property.

Colorful tile, warm terracotta tones, fireplaces, cozy chairs and the tinkling of myriad fountains contributes to the Zen-like atmosphere that permeates the property. Though a few public rooms boast comfortable, weather-proof seating, San Diego’s exquisite year round temperature draws guests to the out-of-doors. Estancia La Jolla offers countless benches in the garden, fire pit studded patios and lounge topped verandas in which to kick off your shoes and catch up on your latest Kindle book. Perhaps while enjoying a glass of the resort’s home-made sangria?

THE ROOMS at Estancia La Jolla

There are 210 rooms on the property. The small yet serviceable balcony looked down upon an inner, grass and palm tree filled courtyard, and the room itself was swathed in the colors of a vibrant sunset−reds, oranges and golds. The guestroom and the resort itself offer myriad throwbacks to the days of the Wild West, with horse blankets topping the luxuriously soft beds and wagon wheels artistically hung in corridors.

DINING at Estancia La Jolla

The casual Adobe El Restaurante serves breakfast and lunch with indoor and patio seating overlooking the gardens. Mustangs & Burros is the premier restaurant offering a spacious patio that ties the beauty of the outdoors into the rustic, ranch infused décor. Southwestern inspired cuisine is served using only the finest locally grown, sustainable ingredients−think black bean empanadas or delectable stuffed chicken flautas. The homemade sangria is also a not-to-be-missed treat. Feeling lazy? The room service is particularly good at Estancia offering a wide selection with bounteous portions….the herbed butter and warm bread are a real treat. The Trinitas Wine Bar makes for a fantastic après dinner stop. Well-known in the San Diego area for offering one of the most diverse selections of California wine, this leather covered, dimly lit space is just right for a romantic evening.

THE SERVICE at Estancia La Jolla

My car was promptly taken and my bags unloaded upon arrival in the verdant courtyard of Estancia La Jolla. The terracotta hued lobby was spacious and comfortable, and I was quickly checked into my room. After having driven four hours in afternoon LA traffic, I was tired and hungry, so room service was just the ticket. It arrived promptly and was delicious. The following morning, I went for a reflexology treatment at the spa, which was spectacular. It wasn’t the largest spa I have visited, but the amenities were abundant−lavender infused cold towels and cucumber slices on ice outside the sauna−and the staff was beyond helpful. When I checked out, I was given extensive directions and suggestions on afternoon activities, as well as a cold bottle of water for the road. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
